It may never of occurred to you that a young person in your care might be gambling, but unfortunately gambling amongst youth is just as common as it is amongst adults. Gambling frequently occurs in video games, within school time, and in the privacy of children’s bedrooms. If your child has a smart phone, watches sport, interacts with social media or watches TV, we can guarantee that they are frequently being bombarded with messages that gambling is a normal part of life. There is a very high chance they will try it.
This free workshop will help you to learn more about this hidden problem so that you can help your young person navigate gambling influences and minimize harm.

About the presenter:
Cathy Ellis is the Community Linker for GambleAware; a free gambling counselling service for anyone impacted by gambling. When working as a Case Manager in homelessness, she was shocked to discover how many of her clients had a gambling problem that was never spoken about or addressed. This has made her passionate about destigmatizing talking about gambling. Cathy started at GambleAware on a research project and soon discovered that youth gambling was a much bigger problem than even she had realized, which encouraged her to move into delivering community workshops. She is on a mission to speak with young people, parents and carers to educate them about what they can do to minimize gambling harm. Find out more about GambleAware here.
