DESCRIPTION:An incredible night of astronomy\, astrophysics\, photonics\, a
strophotonics and all things physics – including a large outdoor area fu
ll of telescopes where you can observe celestial objects.\n\nWeather permi
tting\, there will be up to 30 telescopes aimed at the glittering night sk
y\, operated by both Macquarie University astronomers and amateur astronom
ers alike. Meet and chat with real-life astronomers\, observe stars\, plan
ets\, nebulae\, star clusters and much more\, and discover the night sky l
ike you never have before.\n\nThere will be a series of short talks about
recent discoveries and new technology in astronomy\, the role of radio ast
ronomy\, the impact of light pollution\, and an illustrated talk from Macq
uarie University's Dr Richard McDermid about the hunt for supermassive bla
ck holes. View our full program here:\n\nhttp://events.mq.edu.au/events/as

see an exhibition of astrophotography. There will be plenty of food optio

n for Astronomy (AfA) and the Department of Physics and Astronomy are prou
d to present the annual Macquarie University Astronomy Open Night. The AfA
was established in 1988 by Dr. Alan Vaughan to promote astronomy outreach
to the public\, enabling various parts of the astronomical community to i
nteract\, and encouraging teaching and research in astronomy and astrophys
ics at Macquarie University. This has made the Astronomy Open Night one of
the most treasured events on the Macquarie University astronomy calendar
over the past 30 years.\n\nIf you have any questions about ticketing pleas
